Dynamic Campaigns using RSS

Using RSS blocks in your email campaigns will allow you to deliver fresh, relevant content directly to subscribers without manual intervention. By integrating an RSS feed, email campaigns automatically pull the latest blog posts, news updates, or product highlights into the email, ensuring recipients always see the most current information. This enhances engagement by keeping the content timely and reduces the effort required to maintain your campaigns.

How to add an RSS Block to a Template

RSS blocks are available in the drag & drop template editor. To add a block:

  1. Make sure you've selected the Elements drop down in the menu on the left hand side.
  2. Drag the RSS Feed element into your template and place it where you'd like the content to sit.
  3. Click to select the block in your template to edit it, and then add your RSS Feed URL into the 'Content' area and click Save.
  4. Once added you'll see a number of new options. The first is to choose the Feed Type. You can toggle it between Static and Dynamic.
    1. Static means that it will just pull in the content as it is right now. When selected you can choose which feed entries to include and what content to display e.g. Author, Description, Content, URL etc.
    2. Dynamic means that the template will update the content as is updates in your feed. You need to choose Dynamic if you'd like to dynamically send your campaign as there are new updates to the feed. If you choose Dynamic you get to choose how many feed entries to include in your template, and what content to display e.g. Author, Description, Content, URL etc.
  5. You can use the Style tab inside the block to update the style of each of the RSS content types to better suit the style of your brand and the template.
  6. Save the template and if you've selected the Dynamic option you can use it in a dynamic email campaign.

How to configure an RSS email Campaign

Once you've created a template with dynamic RSS content you can setup an email campaign that is sent out repeatedly at a set interval e.g. daily, weekly or monthly, when there is new content from the feed.

Here's how to set that up:

  1. Go to Campaigns > click the button to Start a Campaign.
  2. Give the Campaign a name, make sure Email Campaign is selected as the Type, and then click Create Campaign.
  3. Next choose your recipients. This is the same as any normal campaign. Click Next Step.
  4. After that, choose from an existing template with a dynamic RSS block, or create a new one. Once the template is ready, click Save and Continue.
  5. Now that you're in the Send step, you'll see a new section called Repeat sending options. Under that section you can configure how often you want to resend the campaign when there is new contact in your RSS feed. You can choose to not repeat, or to repeat daily, weekly or monthly. Depending on the interval you can also choose what day of the week to send on or which day of the month.

  6. Once you've chosen your interval and started your campaign, it will continue resending as per your configuration.

Note that an email is only sent when there is new content in the RSS feed.
